Looking for a place to stay in Hells Canyon that is not camping. Don%26#39;t want to have to pack slleping bags and all. Any one familiar with Copper Creek Lodge or can recommend a different place to stay? Thanks
Familiar with Beamers Copper Creeek Lodge??
Your info is a little sketchy on what you want to do or how long you want to stay in Hell%26#39;s Canyon. I haven%26#39;t heard of Copper Creek Lodge. I don%26#39;t find it in the guide book I have. Generally, HC is a day trip unless you plan to camp. The towns in Idaho that are gateways to HC are Cambridge, Council, and Riggins. Cambridge and Council give you access to the resevoirs about the three dams. Riggins, give you access to the white water below the dams. Riggins probably has the most outdoor fishing and whitewater guides and accomodations. All three are small remote mountain towns. Cambridge has about 3 places to stay and Council has one. Cambride lists the Gateway Motel which is actually on Hwy. 71 part way to the Canyon. It%26#39;s a small motel and store with 4 units. Mainly, it%26#39;s a stop for people provisioning for their camping trip into the Canyon. One the Oregon side, you can access Hell,s Canyon from Baker, OR through Halfway and Richland, OR. Halfway has several B %26amp; B%26#39;s and guest ranchs.
I hope this helps. If you want specific motel names and contact numbers, let me know.

The comments I posted were for car travel. Sorry I missed the word Beamer%26#39;s. I found that and it looks like a nice place to spend a few days. I%26#39;m sure you know it%26#39;s accessible only by jetboat. But, that%26#39;s probably what attracted you to it in the first place. I haven%26#39;t been there myself but, it looks interesting. Access is from Lewiston, Idaho which is farther north than the towns I mentioned.
Thanks for your input! Copper Crrek looked really good until I found out its $338pp even children for one night. Thats more then the airfare.
We will be going from Coeur d%26#39;alene to Wallawa Lake then looking at doing Hells Canyon from Oxbow since we are going to Boise from there since I couldn%26#39;t find any overnight accomodations that were reasonable in Hells Canyon that didn%26#39;t involve camping.
Are you familiar with the lower end of the canyon entering from Oxbow? They say its the deepest part of the canyon but is it the most impressive way to view?
Appreciate any of your suggestions thanks!
Be advised what I am about to suggest entails some lengthy drives on winding 2 lane roads. But, it is the best scenic route. From Coure d%26#39;Alene follow 95 south to Lewiston. Follow the signs to Clarkston, WA and then take 129 south to Asotin, WA. Follow this route south into Oregon ending in Enterprise. Turn south to Joseph. Wallowa Lake is a few miles south of Joseph. Joseph has numerous motels and funky eating establishments. It has become as tourist/artisans destination. The route to Oxbow leaves from Joseph. You might want to detour north to Imnaha and to Hat Point to view the canyon. This is a side trip of 100 miles. Or you can go south from Joseph on the scenic byway until you hit highway 86. Going east on 86 you will reach the Snake River at Oxbow. From here you might wish to go north to the visitors center at Hells Canyon Dam. From this dam, there is a good hiking trail on the west bank of the Snake River below the dam. Or, if you go south, you will drive along the resivoirs of the Oxbow and Brownlee dams. From Brownlee you can follow Route 71 to Cambridge. Here you will pick-up Hwy, 95 again which will take you south to Boise. I would enquire in Joseph about road conditions to Hat Point and Oxbow before setting out. This is a minimum 2 day trip but will give you a great taste of the rugged beauty of Northeastern Oregon and the Hells Canyon Country. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the route info, looks like a very scenic drive. Are you familiar with any of the jetboat route that go inside the canyon? Traveling with our kids so I thought that would be a great way to see the canyon. Probably go with the tour operator out of Oxbow after spending a few days at Wallowa Lake, unless its more scenic going from Lewiston? Any must see and does in the area? Thanks so much for your help!
Check out www.hellscanyonadventures.com. For a complete list of outfitters go to www.ioga.org. Click the jetboating tab and then point and click on the Snake River on the map. From Lewiston you would be back tracking but your river trip would probably be 100% in a jetboat that departs Lewiston. From Oxbow, no doubt you would be traveling by van to get to the free running river below the dams. The IOGA website can give you links to lodging in the Oxbow area as well. Good luck!
$338.00 per person is not a bad deal when you consider that it includes a 200 mile round trip professionally guided jet boat tour of Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America, your overnight accomodations at the only fully modern lodge in the canyon consisting of a main lodge where the meals are served and 23 private riverfront cabins and all your meals.
Idahoqueen you must be royalty to spend over $1500 for one day for a family with 3 kids. If they need someone to take that journey and write a review we would be more then happy to take up an offer, but I have not read anything that would lead me to spend $1500 for one day even if the food is gourmet.
