2008 Winter Carnival

I%26#39;ve just recently been to McCall, Idaho for a business trip and realized what a great town it is! There is so much to do whether it is winter or summer, I can%26#39;t wait to go back. I am going to try and bring my family for the Winter Carnival this year. I think it would be fun to get bundled up and enjoy, it is a two week event from the last week of January to the first week of February. I%26#39;m trying to decide which weekend to go for. Any suggestions?

I would go the second week only because this year they are having the Yellow Pine Harmonica Festival.

the festival is usually held every summer in Yellow Pine but because of the forest fires in the area this year'; they closed the only road to it';.

the McCall festival decided to help them this year.

So this year only. you can see the winter festival and enjoy the harmonic festival at same time.

but book early most rooms will be gone already.

KTVB listed the Harmonica Festival dates as Thursday February 1 and Friday February 2. Problem, of course, is that the 1st is Friday and the 2nd is Saturday. I%26#39;d bet the 1st and 2nd are the accurate parts of the statement.

I believe more people come up the first weekend (especially for the Mardi Gras parade on the first Saturday), therefore you might have a decent chance for lodging the second weekend... but make your reservations now.

Good news! A local company, InIdaho has created packages for people looking for lodging during the entire Winter Carnival. Check www.inidaho.com/wintercarnival. I found out this week that lodging is still available for both weekends.

I would recommend going the second week/weekend because the final judging of the ice sculptures is on the second Friday. The first and second weeks of the carnival there are events going on everyday, but if you want to see the fabulous sculptures when they are finished the second weekend is for you. Don%26#39;t miss eating at the Pancake House...it%26#39;s the best!!
