Moving 1/19/07 to Twin Falls cont...

For some reason I can not reply to the post on the thread so I am starting a new one.

Ouch on the gas, Here the gas is at a two year low. Its been pretty nice. Thanks for the information on the school district, I have not heard or read anything on the Oregon Trail schools either. I will have to do some research on them. Do you know if there is a Head Start program in Twin Falls? My son was enrolled in the one here and he blossomed in it.

Hopefully we have a safe trip. The ice storm that is hitting the mid west is heading for Michigan right now. By Thursday the roads should be cleared.

If you have any help tips let us know.

Thanks

May i ask, why Twin Falls???

Charley... not all of us can afford to live in Ketchum. :D I imagine one of the Tags family got a job here.

Tags, there is indeed a Head Start program.

The Chamber of Commerce has a nice website at http://www.twinfallschamber.com/

On the site you%26#39;ll find a link to Wecome Mat, which is akin to Welcome Wagon, as well as a lot of information about different businesses and things to do.

Good luck, good trip, let us know when you get here.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

IdahoPug probably can give you more information than I can because she has lived here much longer than I have so I defer to her.

Oregon Trail has a large non-English speaking population. My friend lives in that district, had concerns about the school%26#39;s allocation of resources when her son attended there. Schools are poor here. Idaho ranks 45th in spending per child.

I wish I could be more helpful about Head Start. It seems to me there is a program at the College of Southern Idaho. It should be fairly easy to research. I know I took my daughter there are a young toddler to be tested.

There will some major changes in the school system here in the next few years. A huge bond was just passed. A new high school will be built. Most if not all of the elementary the schools will have renovations. I heard that sixth grade will move up to junior high schoo/. Ninth grade will move up to high school. Things will be topsy turvy for a while.

Good luck with your move! You might appreciate Idaho cold because we don%26#39;t have the humidity that Michigan has.

Again, welcome!

geeeeeee, pug, hit me where it hurts...actually, i work hard to live here. i was just inquiring for my knowledge...sorry, enjoy

Thanks everyone for your input. Currently I am staying in a hotel with my family due to the ice storm that hit us last night. We are out of power and it is not expected to be back on until the day that we are scheduled to move. I will check with the chambers of commerce there and also the College when we get there. Right now things are pretty overwhelming with us not being completly packed and ready to go and not having any power in the house but I%26#39;m sure it will all work out.

We do have jobs to go to when we get there and we already have a place to leave lined up so thing are all set there. Thanks for your concerns. I will be sure to keep you posted when we arrive!

Tina

hey there, right now I am staying in Evanston, WY. We would have made it all the way to Twin Falls but there was a snow storm as we were driving through the mountains so we had to stop about 4:30. We are only about 4 hours away and I am so excited to arrive!!!

Yesterday was terribly windy, so you%26#39;ve got the better day to come. :-)

When we first moved here, I was three months pregnant. We spent one night in North Platte, NE and were planning to spend the following night in WY, but they predicted the interstates would be closed due to a snowstorm so we drove on to eastern Idaho. It was one heck of a long ride, but we dodged a bullet!

Welcome!

Tags, glad you%26#39;re making safe and steady progress. Let us know when you arrive! Twin Falls is a nice town. I%26#39;ve lived a couple of other places, but I always come back home!

I am here now, we have been here for almost two weeks, Tomorrow will be our 2 weeks. My husband has a job over in Jerome. We were hoping for something a bit closer but for now that will do. I have been on a couple of interviews, one sound promising I am scheduled to go back next week for a second interview. We have found the head start for the kids. Also Twins has so beautiful sights!!

I have to go back to MIchigan at the end of the month, my dad is in the ICU there on life support and we are planning on removing it then and seeing if he can manage breathing without it.

But all in all I have to say that I am really enjoying this town!

A couple things I have noticed is that no one really likes to give directions so we have invested in a couple of local maps. Also EVERYONE goes the speed limit, which I find different because im Michigan if its posted 35 everyone goes at least 45. However I heard its because of the price of the tickets you get so I will behaving and going the speed limit.

I just wanted to thank you all for all the help that you have given me.

Tags, the other thing that people do here is give directions according to landmarks which haven%26#39;t existed for 30 years. ';Turn north at the Elks Lodge!'; A good local map is a must, glad you have found some.

And glad you found Head Start -- I go by there every morning after dropping my son off at junior high!

I wish you luck on your job search. I work in Jerome as well. The commute is not too bad, unless there%26#39;s a wreck on the bridge.

In addition to the speed limit, another thing we take seriously here is the seat belt law, and kids in car seats. HEFTY fine for those!

If you haven%26#39;t yet found the city park, we have a very nice one, and right across the street is the library. I used to get books at the library and then sit in the park and let my kids play on the playground.

If you have any questions, don%26#39;t hesitate to post.
