Need Help

I will be traveling across the US with my husband this coming summer. He鈥檚 a long haul truck driver and me and my son plan to join him for a few weeks every now and then. I have no clue where well end up stopping in your state so I was hoping you could all help me by telling me cool kid friendly places to see. I know there will be times where we鈥檒l be waiting a day or so to pick up or drop off and I鈥檇 love to use that free time to explore areas. I鈥檓 the kind of person who likes to plan as much as possible. So any and all recommendations of places to stop and see would be greatly appreciated

Yellowstone Bear World which is situated 5 miles south of Rexburg off US20. www.yellowstonebearworld.com

It is a safari park with the animals wandering ';free';. You drive through, staying inside your vehicle keeping windows and doors shut at all times. There are bears, elk, bison and wolf.

After driving through the safari, there is an area where you can view bear cubs and feed them (at extra cost). There is also a kids petting area, cafe, toilets and souvenir shop. After this you can drive through the safari again.

I am sure your son would love it, but I doubt you would be able to take a truck through the safari.

Snuggle, there are many, many things to do in Idaho, more than I can list in one post! I%26#39;m going to recommend a book for you: Idaho Off the Beaten Path by Julie Fanselow. She%26#39;s been to every place she reviews in the book, with her young daughter.

Since you%26#39;ll be in a truck, you%26#39;ll likely only be on freeways, so let me give some suggestions along I-84:

Idaho Falls: Museum of Idaho

Twin Falls: Perrine Bridge, Herritt Center (great planetarium!)

Glenns Ferry: Three Island State Park (Oregon Trail)

If you%26#39;re anywhere near North Idaho I%26#39;d definitely recommend stopping in Coeur d%26#39;Alene. Our lake has been named one of the most beautiful in the world and during the summer there are a lot of fun activities downtown. Make sure you take a lake cruise with your son.

We also have the largest theme park in the northwest, Silverwood Theme Park about 20 minutes north of Coeur d%26#39;Alene on Hwy 95. Some other possibilities -- the world%26#39;s longest gondola ride at Kellogg Mountain, the old mining towns, including Wallace, Idaho, with some really great mine tours in the summer.

Lisa, I found a very helpful website-www.visitidaho.org as I was planning some weekend outings for our family for this spring and summer. It divides our state into regions and has lodging and attractions for each region. I have lived here all my life and I am just realizing how little of the attractions I have actually seen soooo, I am making it my mission to visit each regionand see all there is to see. The first region will be the south central region in April. That is the home to Shoshone Falls(which is most impressive in the spring) and Brunaeu Sand Dunes (which is really too hot passed Memorial Day. They also have a place called Thousand Springs near the town of Hagerman where the is a fish farm that also raises Alligators and i understand the owners give free tours of their operation.Anyway Idaho has a lot to offer families and I hope you find the website as helpful as I did.
