twin falls vs. boise

Hi!! We could use your help. We are currently looking into moving into the Twin Falls area. However, some have suggested we look into Boise instead. We are not familiar with the areas. Could anyone please give any input as to the major differences of the areas and the pros of Twin Falls. Are biggest concern is the availability of jobs. Also the housing market. We are planning on moving into the area this summer. Thanks for any advice, it is greatly appreciated.

twin falls vs. boise

Summers, it depends on what kind of lifestyle you%26#39;re looking for. Boise is a lot bigger than Twin Falls, with attendant sprawl and commute, but the lifestyle is more urban. Twin Falls is still pretty agrarian. There%26#39;s plenty of outdoor recreation in both places. Houses in Twin Falls are less expensive than in Boise. Jobs, it just depends on what you do. Boise has a lot more available, of course, being the much larger city, but Twin Falls is growing fast.

The weather in Boise is milder than in Twin Falls, but Boise gets temperature inversions in the winter and lies under a pall of smog for weeks at a time. Summers can get up in the 90s- low 100s in both places. Winters are much milder than you%26#39;re used to in Minnesota!

I like Twin Falls because it%26#39;s smack in the middle of everything. Less than 2 hours to Boise or Sun Valley, 40 miles from Nevada if you like gambling, less than 4 hours to Salt Lake for an urban experience.

Charley will try to convince you to move to the Wood River Valley. :D

You ought to make a trip out and see what you like... what made you decide on Twin Falls?

twin falls vs. boise

Hi

Twin Falls now is what Boise was 20 yrs ago.

before you move take a trip out and see for yourself

both citys are great places depends on what you are looking for and what type of jobs you have in mind.

Boise approx 500,000 in metro area with booming downtown and urban feel but with large sprawling suburbs

Twin Falls approx 100,000 growing fast but still has a small town feel.

actually pug, i don%26#39;t want anyone else to move to my home town. BUT Boise over TWIN,,,no brainer for me. Boise has lots more to offer and to us from Sun Valley area, is like going to a mini, and i mean mini city...martini bars, good food, nice hotels, and a plethera of jobs. The job market is much more, much more, diverse in Boise.

Lovings summers, come take a look and decide for yourself. See what you like. but always enjoy

I think everything is relative.

We just got back from San Francisco for springbreak. There isn%26#39;t a single spot in Idaho that compares to the culture, the cuisine, the entertainment, the shopping, the job opportunities, the urban adventure that you get in the big cities. But there also isn%26#39;t the crime rate, the traffic, the high cost of living. So it all depends on what you%26#39;re looking for.

We moved to Idaho from the DC area in 1993. I hated it at first. I loved the people, but I didn%26#39;t appreciate the small town environment. Also, Twin Falls is high desert so there aren%26#39;t any trees or water here. You don%26#39;t know how much certain scenery and color for that matter is part of you until you no longer have it.

But now I absolutely adore Twin Falls. It%26#39;s five to ten minutes from shopping stores, schools, medical facilities. The colors are subtle here. The lichen on lava rock, the silvery green of the Russian olive trees. You have to pay more attention to detail to discover the richness of the colors.

Boise is Big City for Idaho, but it isn%26#39;t Big City by any other standard. It has Boise State University. It has a great park complex with a zoo. It has restaurants and arenas for concerts, ballet, sports events. In find the museums unimpressive. It also has traffic, urban sprawl, and higher crime rates.

If you don%26#39;t have kids, Boise is the better place. There is very little here to do that isn%26#39;t family-oriented.

Initial thoughts, back to unpacking. I look forward to more discussion here!

You didnt give any info on what kind of activities you like. Having lived in both towns I will give you some insight, from my opinion.

Twin Falls is EXTREMELY small, when I moved to twin I tried to find a place to meet people by going out looking for a sports bar on Sunday to watch football. Poor choice, it may have changed but there is no drinking on Sundays, while I lived there people tried to change the law twice but were voted down. It seems the locals dont cotton to drinking on the lords day.

Being an outdoorsy person I did like the availability of those activities but I found Boise has just as much to offer and more being closer to mountains with trees and rivers. The snake river flows through Twin but it is kind of gross from all the ranching runoff and treated effluent from the sewage plant. I flew my plane down the river one day and it actually turns from a greenish color to brownish where the waste is dumped in. Very gross.

Twin has very little to offer as far as anything cultural, sure there are local productions which can be good but you need to go to boise or Salt Lake for anything national.

I found the people very nice and made some great friends, although there is quite a bit of %26#39;nosiness%26#39; so to speak. Evveryone knows your business. It is also EXTREMELY conservative, even for me.

Boise is a bigger town and people will talk about traffic and crime but they average about one murder a year, and 20 minutes is a long commute, small compared to big cities. The police have so little to do you find yourself explaining why you were jaywalking.

There are a lot more cultural activities and skiing is about 30 minutes up the hill. The foothills are awesome for hiking, snowmobiling, mountain biking etc. There are also a lot of real %26#39;neighborhoods%26#39; with small eateries and shops in the %26#39;North end%26#39; which is the older historic part of town.

Housing is more expensive than Twin but relative. I sold my house for about 170 a few years ago and it recently sold for 280 if that gives you any idea of the runup. It is still a very affordable town compared to other cities in the west.

All in all I would choose Boise. Twin Falls while it has some nice things going for it is still Mayberry. No offense, just my humble opinion.

i found your post delightful, saying what i was thinking. all relative, and i laughed about explaining why you were jay walking. I love Boise and am going over to meet a friend tomorrow...and shop in the big city. The Indian Shop (all natural Indian foods and products) and the Boise Coop...fun and enjoy

Hey Charley, have a good time in Boise. I%26#39;m a member of the Co-op, back from the days when it was over in Hyde Park, NO meat, NO sugar, lotsa groovy old hippies! I still have my old Co-op card.

Pug

boise coop and boise has changed a bit, but not much. my line, coming from laguna beach in the 60;s, (dating myself) was ';peace, love, no meat, no bra'; and that kills everyone all the time...i have since changed one thing !!! enjoy
