Christmas and Snow for Family Vacation

I%26#39;m looking for suggestions. We are a three-generation family of seven (5 adults, 2 children) looking for a place to go for a week at Christmas. We want snow, but we don%26#39;t need downhill skiing (XC and snowshoes, though, are definitely on our list). We like to be able to rent one large house and just hang out together, playing cards, watching bowl games, etc. A decent grocery store not too far away and maybe a restaurant or too, and we%26#39;re set. Airfare to Boise is usually inexpensive, so I%26#39;m interested in something not too long of a drive outside of Boise. All suggestions welcome. Thank you.

You may want to consider North Idaho, you would fly into Spokane, Washington. Coeur d%26#39; Alene is the most popular destination but a good alternative would be Sandpoint which is smaller but still has great things to do in the winter. Coeur d%26#39; Alene is 35 miles east on Spokane, Sandpoint is 80 miles northeast of Spokane. Coeur d%26#39; Alene is more of a summer rental location, Sandpoint because of Schweitzer Ski area is more all year rental location.

Of couse, I am from Ketchum (Sun Valley is not Ketchum just a joke, we used to have t-shirts that said that) or the Sun VAlley area. I think that this is the most beautiful place on earth, can%26#39;t imagine where else i would live. We have the cleanest air, the bluest sky, that turns pink at dusk.

The area is all walking distance, and there are many large homes to rent.We also have a free bus that runs into the night. The mountain is supposed to be one of the best in the world and has produced many olympic skiiers and snowboarders. You can walk out your door and x-country ski on the old railroad tracks, that have been made into a bike path for the summer. It is straight and goes for 20 some miles and is groomed in the winter for regular x- country skiing and skate skiing and is free. You can also walk outside your door and snowshoe, the opportunities are unlimited. We have wonderful stores and resturants. Some people save their whole lives for a vacation in this area.let me know if you need further info...and enjoy
