I would like some help picking between La Quinta, Best Western, Holiday Inn or Red lion for a trip to Coeur d%26#39;alene this summer. Or any other hotel suggestions would be appreciated. I would like a nicer, destination type hotel (as opposed to a quick overnight hotel that you might stay in when passing through town). But, I don%26#39;t want to pay for the Coeur d%26#39;alene resort. Which is the nicest hotel choice for 2 adults and 2 young kids. I would like to be close to the lake (is there one that is walking distance?) as I%26#39;d like an atmosphere of a lake vacation by the lake and its activities (does that make sense?)
Coeur d'alene hotel help
Couple of suggestions to help clarify answers you may get. If Coeur d%26#39; Alene is your desired location then the Red Lion may not work because its located in Post Falls, 8 miles west of Coeur d%26#39; Alene. The Red Lion is a nice hotel located on the Spokane River which provides water access and boat access into Lake Coeur d%26#39; Alene. The Best Western is associated with the resort, and is located at the intersection of US95 and the I90 so its not all that close to the lake. There are two Holiday Inn Express locations in this area, a new nice one is located at the intersection of I90 and Northwest Blvd in Coeur d%26#39; Alene, it probably along with the Day%26#39;s Inn across the street provided some of the closest new hotel access to downtown and the lake via the Northwest blvd and the Centennial trail, its a long walk to downtown from both locations. The other Holiday Inn Express is located in Hayden, not very close to Lake Coeur d%26#39; Alene but it is associated with a local amusement area and has its own water park. There are two La Quinta%26#39;s in town, one at the end of Sherman Ave (the main street thorough downtown) and the other near the intersection of I90 and US95 . The one on Sherman is a nice location with access to the Centennial Trail and Coeur d%26#39; Alene Lake Drive along the north lake shore, easy drive into downtown, and across street from great breakfast/lunch place (Micheal D%26#39;s restaurant). In terms of downtown hotels there is a limited number, two older motels built before I90 diverted traffic from downtown are the Flamigo and Resort City, both very close to downtown and both reviewed on this site. There are also two nice b%26amp;b locations close to downtown, the McFarland Inn and Roosevelt Inn also reviewed on this site. Since I live here I%26#39;m probably not the best source of a recommendation on the quality of the hotels but from a location standpoint ,outside of the downtown hotels, the other good locations would be the Holiday Inn Express in Coeur d%26#39; Alene and the La Quinta on Sherman in Coeur d%26#39; Alene. There is considerable public parking in downtown (pay lots and street parking) so not being right in downtown does not preclude one from enjoying downtown, the beach, and city park.
Coeur d'alene hotel help
To add to the Holiday Inn Express Coeur d%26#39; Alene info, there is some construction ongoing in the area surrounding the Hotel.
Dave hit all the important points when he answered, so I have nothing new to add, but I would say that La Quinta (the one on Sherman) may be your best bet. You%26#39;re definitely walking distance to the city park and lake, and also close to the cute little downtown area. I have had acquaintances stay there and they enjoy it (though it%26#39;s been awhile). It%26#39;s not a ';resort'; type atmosphere, but it%26#39;s clean and each room has a kitchen (check that out to be sure).
As Dave suggested, the Holiday Inn Express in Coeur d%26#39;Alene is also good and is located close to a new park in Riverstone and some restaurants and shopping, but if I had to suggest one place, I guess it would be La Quinta.
Hope you have a great time in Coeur d%26#39;Alene! Make sure you take a cruise on the lake.
Okay, so we%26#39;re either going to stay at the La Quinta on Sherman or the Holiday Inn in Coeur d%26#39;alene that were recommended. Can you elaborate on the construction that is going on near the Holiday Inn? Is it noisy and disruptive or just noticeable when walking by? From the websites, it looks like the Holiday Inn might be nicer inside and out, but the La Quinta is closer to downtown, etc. Is that a correct assumption? Thanks for the information. We%26#39;ve never been to Idaho, so we%26#39;re really looking forward to seeing the sights.
1. Construction - The Holiday Inn is adjacent to an area being redeveloped called Riverstone, the construction is not a direct impact on the Hotel as it is insulated from the construction site by trees and an adjacent building, the main impact is construction traffic on the road providing access to the Hotel. The Holiday Inn is newer and has a more lodge type design than the older La Quinta on Sherman.
2. La Quinta is closer to downtown than the Holiday Inn, and it is also a short walk from La Quinta over to the Fernan Lake boat launch and park.
I hope you enjoy your trip over here.
