Four of us, we%26#39;ve known each other since grade school and are now in our late 50s and early 60s, will be stopping in IF on 7/3/08 on a long motorcycle trip. Where is a good place to stay, preferably bike friendly. I see most of the chains are there but clean comfortable mom%26amp;pop is fine too.
Thanks.
Good place to stay??
Hi eMan53,
Your best bet is to stay on the river (by the falls for which the city is named). You%26#39;ll find almost exclusively the chains there (Shilo, Best Western Driftwood, Hilton Garden [brand new - should be open by July]and Red Lion). There is a KOA just up the road that rents little cabins, if that sounds like more fun.
For dinner I%26#39;d recommend the Brownstone Brewery (right on the falls, next to the above hotels). Whitewater Grill (next to the Brownstone) is good, but spendy. Jalisco%26#39;s (next to both) is good for Mexican (but being from Las Cruces, you probably want something different I%26#39;d imagine). Collage (downtown on ';A'; street) is excellent (but really expensive).
Do you like divey bars, or nicer places? Billy%26#39;s (next to the KOA), Frosty Gator (across the river in the downtown area), and Blue Wave (behind the zoo on Rollandet) are our favorite dives (good burgers, cheap beer). Vina Rosa (wine bar with live music on the weekends) and Marcellars (both downtown) are a little nicer places to get a drink.
Hope you have a fun trip!
Good place to stay??
I agree with above post. One other place to consider is the Ameritel. It is a little higher end, with very nice rooms.
