We%26#39;re looking for a route from McCall to Ketchum that bypasses Boise, and it looks like 55S to Banks and then 24E to Lowman and 21 through the Sawtooths might be perfect. However, we%26#39;ll be in a rental and my husband prefers not to drive them on unpaved roads for long distances and it looks like the last 20 miles or so of 24 are unpaved. Anyone know the condition of 24 currently or have other route ideas? Thanks!
route advice from McCall to KetchumI don%26#39;t remember any dirt road, if so, it was good. We used to drive that route all the time. Great area, very pretty and goes along the river. Don%26#39;t miss Kirkham Hot Springs, right in the river ,by Loman. Also, there is another, if you are interested in Hot Springs, that you could look up. Little Pine or something. When the Sawtooths come into view, wow, they are so pretty and awesome. Stop in Stanley at the Stanley Bakery and pick up a sandwich to eat at one of the lakes. Redfish is first, very family orientated and busy. BUT%26lt; you can eat your lunch on the lawn, or just use a table and anarondik (spell) chair that are against the lodge. They are very cool there. But , i would go south to Alturus, or Petit and save lunch for those lakes. enjoy
route advice from McCall to KetchumHi
you might have an old map it was paved last time I drove it 3 yrs ago
it follows the south fork of the Payette river to Lowman a wonderful drive can be twisty and narrow in spots but it is a mountian road.
unless there has been a land slide recently
The road is paved all the way from McCall to Ketchum. Have driven the entire section on various trips the last 3 weeks. It%26#39;s a beautiful drive, but is a windy mtn road so no gazing for the driver! Only bummer is all the smoke. I was up in the Sawtooths this past weekend %26amp; view were greatly diminished by the haze. However, next week it%26#39;s suppose to cool some so maybe the firefighters can get an upper hand on some of them.
Enjoy!
