when does it SNOW?

hi!

I am planning a holiday to the USA in december through to jan 4th, starting in NYC but we want to travel to somewhere where we can rpetty much guarantee snow so the children can get a good few days experiencing it. The children have barely seen snow, so it is important. I considered wisconsin but on that board was told not really there, i tried New Hampshire but was told that was unlikely, and colorado and Idaho were more likely !! So, is this right? Is Idaho a likely place to find snow, and if so what areas would be good to find the good snow stuff? A nice place to sledge,-we arent really looking to ski but sleding and maybe snow shoeing , ice fishing, ice skating etc...also, any hot springs, any theme parks around?!

Thanks!

when does it SNOW?

Here in Boise there is a little winter snow in the valley that tends to melt quickly, but there is usually snow up at Bogus Basin. I think there are busses up to Bogus Basin. The drive is rather tricky. Boise has an indoor iceskating rink. There are ponds in Ann Morrison Park that sometimes get ice that is thick enough for the birds to walk on, but it is never safe for skating.

You might consider the Lake Tahoe area of California and Nevada. Squaw Valley has an outdoor iceskating rink that is open all year. I think Reno has an outdoor iceskating rink, but I%26#39;m not sure about the details. Like Boise, Reno gets very little snow, but it is close to higher elevations that do get snow.

I would expect Minnesota to have pretty reliable winter snow. There are also some subzero (Fahrenheit) temperatures.

when does it SNOW?

Coeur d%26#39; Alene - Sandpoint area in North Idaho is a pretty good bet for snow. Spokane, Washington is the location of the nearest airport (35 miles to Coeur d%26#39; Alene, 80 miles to Sandpoint). Even if no snow at lower elevations not far to drive to snow in the mountains.

The place you would enjoy most I believe is on the Lolo Pass, it is between Missoula Montana and Kooskia Idaho it%26#39;s called Lolo Hot Springs. This is also Known as the Lewis and Clark Trail, and it is the bicentenial year of the crossing. This would be a grate place for children to have alot of fun and get a hystory lesson too! During the time you have planned to visit Idaho this area should have many feet of snow, and any activity you could think of to do in it all in one place. Have a good trip!

Bend, Oregon is a good option. You may not have snow right in town, but you%26#39;ll be a 15 minute drive from a ton of it - guaranteed. You can fly into Portland and drive down (3.5 hrs) or fly right into the Bend/Redmond airport.

Colorado will also have snow but is very crowded relative to Oregon or Idaho. You could also consider somewhere in Canada.
