I am planning to drive down from Yellowstone to Boise in June. I understood the trip might take like 9hrs in total, so considered having an overnight stop to make it more relaxing, and enjoy the area a bit. I read that Idaho Falls might be a nice option -not only for the outdoors but also the driving distance? Any tipp on how to ';break'; that trip would be more than appreciated!!! Thank you ;0)
From Yellowstone to Boise - any tips??
The most direct route from West Yellowstone to Boise would be taking the freeway from Idaho Falls through Twin Falls and is only around 6 hours... 4 hours to Twin Falls, then another 2 to Boise. The 9 hour drive would be going near Craters of the Moon and the Sawtooth Mountains. If you have the time, do take this route and overnight in Stanley or Redfish Lake. Lots to see and much of it is a beautiful mountain drive (except the stretch from idaho Falls to Craters of the Moon). I%26#39;m not sure which part of Yellowstone you%26#39;ll be coming from, so this would make a difference also (just add the time from wherever you are to West Yellowstone to get the exact distance). Happy travels!
From Yellowstone to Boise - any tips??
My husband is flying to Boise in about 3 weeks, to meet my daughter who is driving from Oregon, and they plan to go the other way-- that is, from Boise to Cody, Wyoming. It has been suggested to us that they drive from Boise to Jackson, spend the night, and then go to Cody by driving through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. This is the beginning of a cross country trip ending on the east coast. My husband%26#39;s main interest is the Buffalo Bill Center in Cody, but as he will be so close to the parks, he wants to at least see them. Is there something they should plan to see on the way to Jackson? Is there something in Jackson they should not miss? Is it outrageous to try to do both parks and the BB Center in one day?
In a word, YES. I don%26#39;t see any way of doing Yellowstone, the Tetons and the BB Center in Cody in one day unless you don%26#39;t stop to look at anything. Do you have any idea how big Yellowstone is? I suppose you could drive north from Jackson through the Tetons into Yellowstone and turn west to see Old Faithful then back northeast to drive past Canyon and out the eastern entrance to Cody. Without stops it would be around 6 hours. Count on it taking a good 7 1/2 hours to get to Cody, though, if you stop for these two main sights in Yellowstone. You will miss a lot... Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, etc., but you will have to be picky to get to Cody early enough to do anything there.
