Tent campgrounds on the way to the Yellowstone National Park

Hello,

We live in Lake Tahoe, NV. In July we are going to the Yellowstone National Park. We are planning to get there thru west entrance via us-20. Since it is such a long drive, I am thinking to stay overnight in the campground in Idaho Falls area. I want to make sure that the campground is on our way to the park. How easy/difficult to get a reservation in the campground? I would appreciate any information about the existing campgraunds there (tent camping).

Thank you in advance!

Hello ija1212,

Do you mean the Snake River RV Park (formerly the KOA)? Yes, it%26#39;s right in town and right on your way. The number is 208-523-3362 and the website is www.snakeriverrvpark.net

They have tent and RV camping, or little cabins you can rent. The location is quite nice - about 1 mile from ';the falls'; with lots of restaurants to choose from (I%26#39;d recommend the Brownstone Brewery, it%26#39;s one of our favorites).

Have a fun trip!

Thank you for the tips. I have never been in Idaho, so I did not mean any campground in particular. I just wanted any place on our way:-)

You can check for state campgrounds at parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/index.aspx

It looks like there are a few campgrounds just west of American Falls, ID, off I86. I don%26#39;t see any near Idaho Falls, so if you want to make it to Idaho Falls, I would also recommend the former KOA. We like to stay in the cabins when we have had a long travel day...you can usually arrange for a late arrival with the office if you can%26#39;t make it to the campground during check-in hours.
