best stopover between grand teton and slc

What is the most scenic and convenient stopover between Grand Teton and Salt Lake City via Idaho Falls (driving)? I am looking for somewhere to spend the night and explore before flying out from SLC. Will be traveling with a 9 yr old child. Thanks!

i might be incorrect, but think that the drive is only 3 hours...i would drive to park city and have a look around, before slc...that is if you need to spend an extra night. enjoy

just looked the distance up on map quest and it is about 300 miles, easy drive.enjoy

Well, quite honestly, there%26#39;s a whole lot of nothin%26#39; between Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City. Pocatello (an hour south of I.F.) is a college town of about 50,000 - and after that there%26#39;s not another city of more than a couple thousand people the rest of the way. If you%26#39;re coming in the summer, I%26#39;d recommend a stop at Bear Lake (on the Idaho/Utah border) and a quick trip up to the Minnetonka caves. Bear Lake is a beautiful blue, and perfect for swimming (although the surrounding scenery is a bit bleak). There%26#39;s a couple of small towns nearby where you can get a burger and a raspberry shake. But if you%26#39;re coming at this time of year, the lake is frozen solid and there%26#39;s not a whole lot to see (unless you like ice fishing). The town of Lava Hot Springs is another cute little stop. It%26#39;s got a 10 meter high dive at the outdoor pool, and you can float the river through town in an inner tube during the summer. If you want to stay in Idaho Falls, we have lots of hotels and restaurants. The falls themselves are pretty, but there%26#39;s not a whole lot to see outside the city (we%26#39;re located in a high desert with lots of WIDE OPEN SPACE surrounding). It depends on where you%26#39;re coming from, but I wouldn%26#39;t necessarily describe it as ';scenic';.

Dunno if that helps. If you could give me a more specific idea of what you%26#39;d like to do/see, and what time of year you%26#39;ll be coming, I could probably be more helpful.

Between GT and SLC the best stopover would be Idaho Falls. Every thing else is really too small for much. Unless you want a little off the direct track then head over to Lava Hot Springs, as already mentioned.

I%26#39;m not sure why you have to go through IF to get from GT to SLC. I myself would go south at Alpine through Star Valley (Afton) Wy if you want scenic. Then you could stop at Bear Lake as has been suggested, which is a nice stopover in many ways.

I did the drive familyof3 describes from Idaho Falls through Lava Hot Springs/Bear Lake and then up through Logan during the fall. I enjoyed this drive-I thought it was more scenic than the interstate.

We wernt sure if we should stop at Lava Hot Springs hot pool area but we were glad we did. I think your 9year old would enjoy this if you have time to stop. The raspberry shakes were good too!!! :)
