My husband and I will be spending the week in Boise, and would like to drive over to Oregon for a Saturday, so we can say we%26#39;ve been to Oregan. Can you suggest a place in Oregon (and something special to see/do) that wouldn%26#39;t be too far to drive back and forth to Boise the same day?
Thanks a lot!

Off the top of my head I think you can see some tracks from the Oregon Trail out by Vale, or you could head up towards La Grande for some nice mountain views. Hell%26#39;s Canyon (Oregon Side) is impressive, and I think there%26#39;s an Oregon Trail museum of some sort in Baker City. The mountains up by Anthony Lakes ski area outside of Baker City are also impressive, especially for someone from Kansas (I%26#39;ve been many times - pretty state, but damn it%26#39;s flat).
What time of year are you coming? I live in Boise, and it%26#39;s damn hot right now and will be through early September.

If you just want to drive to Oregon, you can cross the border at Ontario, 60 miles from Boise. But if you travel farther along the freeway to Baker (130 miles from Boise) you can visit the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Here%26#39;s the website: http://www.blm.gov/or/oregontrail/ When you%26#39;re finished there, run into town to the Geiser Grand Hotel for lunch. It would be a nice day trip.

Those are some fantastic ideas--exactly what I was looking for. We will be there this next week, but I am happy it will be such great weather. It is usually like that here during summer, but has been rather gloomy the last few weeks. I am ready for some sun! Thanks for the ideas!
