Has anyone stayed at the Island Park Village Resort? Is it clean and well maintained? Are their restaurants on the property? We are leaving on 7 June 2006. Thanks
Island park Village ResortWe are going to be staying at the Island Park Resort next May. Can you tell me about your trip? Would like to know about side trips you may have taken, wildlife, good restaurants, etc.
Thanks,

Island park Village ResortWe are considering this area for our June 2008 trip, specifically the Two Top rental cabin. Does anyone have any info on the Island Park Village in general or this rental in particular?
Also, the ';town'; of Island Park seems to be long and narrow, about 30 miles. Does anyone have insight on where the best place to stay is to be close to Yellowstone but also restaurants and river activities?
We really think we%26#39;d like to stay here as our base for yellowstone, but are having a hard time choosing a place to stay. We would like a cabin with a private hot tub-- any suggestions?? thanks:)
Snorkelgirlie: I%26#39;m not sure where you got the idea that Island Park is 30 miles long. There isn%26#39;t a city in Idaho that can boast of that kind of area, not even the capital city, Boise. There are no fast food restautants, shopping malls, or major grocery stores. It doesn%26#39;t even have a ';town'; or city feel.... but is more in the lines of a village with concentrations of vacation homes off of Highway 20. Many of the people staying in Island Park and Mack%26#39;s Inn are there for the great fishing on the lakes in the area. Unfortunately, the one place I have stayed there is no longer in operation. I did find that driving from Island Park to West Yellowstone very early in the morning gave me one of the best sunrise experiences (and some of the best sunrise pictures) I%26#39;ve ever had.
I drove through Island Park a couple days ago on my way back from West Yellowstone.
It looked rustic, but I like rustic.
One thing intrigued me. It looks like by the far eastern edge of town, there%26#39;s an old ski lift.
I assume it%26#39;s not in operation any more?
Or is it someone%26#39;s private ski lift that they bought from an old resort?
While you%26#39;re in Island Park, definitely go to Meadow Vue Ranch for their rodeo/barbecue, which they have Wed-Fri-Sat. It%26#39;s a great taste of West in a spectacular setting. You attend their rodeo and then are treated to a terrific barbecue and a cowboy singer/entertainer. They also have trail rides. Very special experience! We loved it and will go back this year on our trip in a couple weeks.
I have stayed in Island Park several time to snowmobile in the winter. We rented a cabin at Lakeside Lodge (http://www.lakesidelodgeandresort.com) which is right on the lake. They have a restaurant, but make sure to eat at the Shotgun Store. They have the best french toast....I can%26#39;t wait until it snows!!
Actually, snorkelgirlie is right - Main Street in Island Park is the longest Main Street in the U.S. (westyellowstonenet.com/island_park/island_pa鈥?/a>). As other posters have mentioned, though, that%26#39;s kind of deceptive because there%26#39;s very little along this street that would make you feel like you%26#39;re driving through ';town';. We have stayed in Pond%26#39;s Lodge a couple of times, and really enjoyed it. We always stop in the restaurant there for lunch on our way back from Yellowstone National Park, as well. (It%26#39;s about 20-25 minutes from Ponds Lodge to the entrance to YNP.) I can%26#39;t remember if any of their cabins have hot tubs (probably do - but I%26#39;m not sure). Overall, it%26#39;s rustic but clean. Can be noisy during snowmobile season.
Have a great trip!
Could I get an evaluation of the Lake Side Lodge from someone? My hubby and I are planning a June 08 trip, and he%26#39;s interested in this area because, several years ago when we stayed in Jackson, we drove over for Henry%26#39;s Fork fly fishing. We%26#39;d like to stay closer to the stream this time. THANS!!!
We have rented the ';TwoTop'; cabin in Island Park Village for next June for 4 nights. Does anyone know if there%26#39;s a place where you can just rent fly fishing poles and try it out as a newbie? I%26#39;d love to let my sons, 9 and 11, try it but don%26#39;t want to spend all day on a tour and spend hundreds of dollars.
Before you write-off going with a guide, I%26#39;d recommend you talk with Henry%26#39;s Fork Anglers (208-558-7525) and/or Trouthunters (208-558-9900). They%26#39;re both located in Island Park and can give you a quick (and relatively cheap) lesson in casting that will make your experience a lot more enjoyable (it%26#39;s harder than it looks, and certains spots are better than others). They%26#39;ll provide you with gear.
If you really don%26#39;t want to bother with an outfitter, you can buy a cheap rod %26amp; reel set at the Wal-Mart in Idaho Falls for less than $20 and just go have at it.
Enjoy!
