Mrs

We will be in Boise for a couple days. I%26#39;ve heard there are wild horses about an hours drive from there. I think it is called Owyhee Front (?). Anyone know anything about this? Are the horses hard to find if we drive out there? Is it worth it?

Thanks

Mrs

I heard something on the radio just today, that those horses are being rounded up this week and will be adopted out. I%26#39;m not sure where the holding facility is for them. There is a very short notice on the BLM website : blm.gov/id/…horse_gather.html

You might want to call the BLM and ask them. Their information number is located here: blm.gov/id/…boise_district.html

i have driven around that area and never seen a wild horse. think that if you did, it would be by chance...and enjoy

HI

the holding pens for the wild horse%26#39;s is just south of the airport in

Boise.

they hold them there while they are waiting to be adopted.

like other poster said chances of seeing the horse%26#39;s in the wild are rare.

be warned the Owyhee area is a huge rough dessert with mountians and deep canyons. you need a good 4x4 not a new foo foo SUV LOL it is a remote area with no services.

with the heat and the fire danger and fires burning in that area I would be very careful if you go.

I saw a good number of wild horses a couple of years ago while mtn biking in the Reynolds Creek area just north of Murphy on the Owyhee Front. There%26#39;s a dirt road that goes up into the hills that any SUV or beater rental car would have no problem handling. However, you may have to hike away from the road a bit on one of the ';trails'; to actually find any horses. Bring binoc%26#39;s. As others have said, this is harsh desert terrain %26amp; will be scorching hot. Watch for rattlers! Plan accordingly.

There%26#39;s a lot of wild horses out in that area. Related to that article in the newspaper, there%26#39;s no way they could have rounded them all up.

Have fun!

I also heard they are rounding some up, but only some. Definately not all. Sounds like it will be pretty iffy whether we%26#39;d see any horses. I don%26#39;t want to drive/walk all over and not see any. Thanks so much for the advice. I appreciate it. I guess I won%26#39;t waste the time.
