Scenic Route from Twin Falls to Jackson

My husband and I will be riding (motorcycle) from Northern California to Jackson, Wyoming and are in the process of figuring out our route. So far it looks like Hyw 80 through Winnemucca up to Twin Falls. Any suggestion for a scenic route and two overnight stops. We will be riding around September 14th. As we are new to this area any help would be great. Thanks!

mauisun: I think you have made the best choices for your overnight stops... they are equal distances. My greatest caution on the leg between Winnemucca and Twin Falls is that you will be going at freeway speeds through desert that seems to stretch on forever and ever. The 40 miles from Jackpot (on the Nevada/Idaho state line) and Twin Falls is considered one of the deadliest in the state. Stay alert and watch out for the other guy.

There are a number of good restaurants in Twin Falls, but my favorite for breakfast is The Buffalo... worth getting up early for! It is in the downtown area (doesn%26#39;t look like much from the outside), and they make everything from scratch... even the jams and preserves on the tables. Pancakes as big as the plate and omelets big enough to share. Also while you are in Twin Falls, check out the Perrine Bridge on the Snake River Canyon and Shoshone Falls. There may not be a lot of water running in September, but the leaves should be starting to turn, and the Shoshone Falls park will be beautiful for a picnic or a stroll.

Between Twin Falls and Jackson you could do a couple of things. Your first choice (and most direct route) would be to take the freeway (I-84/I-15) to Idaho Falls and then 26 to Swan Valley and 31 over the mountain pass to Jackson. Idaho Falls to Jackson is very scenic. Or you could instead go north from Twin Falls on 93 to Shoshone and then east on 20 to do a little exploring at Craters of the Moon. At Arco you would continue east to Idaho Falls and then finish on the previous route from Idaho Falls. Have a great trip. Mid-September will be a great time to be traveling!

In September you can still take the more direct route over the mountains to Idaho Falls (ID 31 to US 26) and onto Twin Falls. It%26#39;d probably save you some time and is much more scenic. Unless, of course, you really wanted to see Salt Lake.

If you did that route, two nights would be too much. You could stay an additional night in Jackson or Twin Falls (probably Jackson) and a night in Idaho Falls, which is a decent town, and still have lots of spare time on the drive. But you can easily do it with a full day of driving.

Be sure to hit Shoshone Falls while in Twin Falls.

if i am not mistaken, there isn%26#39;t much water at the falls. for sure spend the extra night in jackson, a no brainer enjoy
