Does anyone have a great suggestion for reasonable lodging that offers seclusion and peace? I%26#39;m travelling solo this trip, but I%26#39;m married so not into anything %26#39;singles%26#39;. I%26#39;m looking for a place of great beauty that allows for hiking, meditation and quiet thought. Doesn%26#39;t have to be Idaho - open to any recommendations.

If you are going to North Idaho I would suggest Priest Lake, two lodges worth considering are: Elkins Resort www.elkinsresort.com or Hills Resort www.hillsresort.com Priest Lake also has great camping opportunities at several Forest Service campgrounds and a Idaho State Park with rental cabins. Priest Lake is located about 75 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington. Area info at www.priestlake.org
I%26#39;d echo Redfish Lake Lodge IF you%26#39;re not going to be there in the height of tourist season (when it can get pretty noisy). I often travel solo myself and love to hike from Redfish and Pettit Lake, particularly in early September. A multitude of trail choices, as well as sitting on the beach at Alturas or Redfish. The 12 mile round trip to Alice Lake is a particular favorite. Another wonderful place for solitude would be Mt. Ashland Inn, which is a B%26amp;B up in the mountains above Ashland, Oregon.

Of course i think that the area in which i live , is the most secluded and peaceful place on earth. When in the height of summer, you can still walk to the river, up a hill and be the ONLY one there. It is easy to reflect the wonderful lives we live, our loved ones and all the areas of receiving the goods of life here in the Wood River Valley. I will bump the post of the trip up to Stanley. I think the drive from Ketchum, thru Stanley (look up Meadow Creek Ranch and Spa), then up thru Challis, there are many hot springs along the way, (very quiet), up the winding road, pastures, unbelievable river and rock formations, to Salmon...They also have a wonderful B and B there, 100acredwoods.com.Along the way after going down Galena SUmmit, and getting a view of the Sawtooths, we have the 3 wonderful lakes, each different...any other inquiries, i could fine tune your trip...and enjoy

Don%26#39;t miss Java on fourth street, for the best ';Bowl of Soul';. that is their signature coffee drink. NEver will you find a better one.
Also, the Casino is one of the oldest buildings left in Ketchum. The only place where smoking is allowed and the drinks are cheap and strong..an institution...when i got here in the late 70%26#39;s, the old guys were still gambling . This was a gambling mecca and the Casion was the place to be. You have to take a peek inside and if you need a haircut, there is a barber outside, beware! Ha

there is a great circle trip that you can take. leaving boise, you go north on highway 95, to Banks. Drive the payette river, watch the early kayakers, and drive the road through Loman, stop at the kirkham hot springs on the way. the road takes you to stanley, usually the coldest spot in the nation!!! all dirt roads, the greatest bakery and lunch spot (i cook for a living and love this place) the stanley bakery...just ask. Get a sandwich to go and head south to Redfish Lake in highway 75. Sit on the porch of the lodge, look out to the wonderful lake, the Sawtooth Mountains in the background. If you want a more secluced lake, save the sandwich (that will be hard!!) and go to the next lake on the drive to Sun valley, Petit Lake. Stop there for the seclulded lake effect. Then you will go up the hill to the Galena lookout...what a view of the Sawtooths. When you go down the hill, look for the small stream that will form on the right hand side, going down. Later when you are in Ketchum, that is the Big Wood River, huge by then. Galena Lodge is a great spot to stop, at the bottom of Galena Summit. It has great history and inside, if it is open, the pictures of the old lodge are on the walls. In the summer we bike up here and in the winter it is used for x country skiing. Head on down to Ketchum, visit my wonderful town, and go south 18 miles to what we call the ';blinking light';. Then turn right on highway 20 and return to Boise. This should take all day, but worth getting up early to do. enjoy

If you like to truly be alone in some beautiful settings, the Forest Service has many cabins and old fire lookouts for rent. They are for the most part secluded and provide only basic necessities such as beds, heat, outhouse and well. But I have rented some with Propane Refrigerators, Propane Chandeliers and indoor plumbing.
They now rent them through the www.recreation.gov site.
As much as I love Idaho, I think Jackson Hole, WY/Yellowstone Park is the best place to go, particularly if you enjoy seeing wildlife. Of course, you shouldn%26#39;t go during prime tourist season though you can certainly ditch them when you hike. And they have superior symphony concerts in a relatively small, acoustically-perfect hall during the summer, so nature can enlighten you during the day and music can further your education at night. :-)

have you ever been to the symphony in Sun Valley??? Under a wonderful tent, at the base of the mountains. you can bring a picnic, sit outside and enjoy...oh, yes and it is free

I noticed someone recommending Redfish Lake Lodge. We are traveling to ID in late June--called about 2 months ago for reservations and were told that they are booked about a year in advance!
