Twin Falls Area ideas

Hi everyone!

We%26#39;ll be in Twin Falls ID from March 20th-April 6th and would love some ideas on places to visit.

We love to do adventurous stuff and love nature...Parks, waterfalls, ghost towns especially we love to visit.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Twin Falls Area ideas

Shoshone Falls (higher than Niagara) if beautiful although this may be a bit early to see it at its best. City of Rocks Natural Reserve is worth a visit. On the way to City of Rocks you can tour Oakley with its concentration of old building listed on the National Historic Register. A bit farther from Twin is Brueanu Sand Dunes State Park. You might want to take a day trip north to the Ketchum/Sun Valley resort area. There will probably still be skiing there. But, if not, this area is full of good restaurants and beautiful vistas. Another trip from Twin is to follow the Snake River canyon west to Thousand Springs. There you can tour fish hatcheries and see where the Thousand Springs flow naturally for basalt canyon walls. A little further west in Hagerman you can tour fossil beds. Another drive is south to Jackpot, NV for a little gambling if you are inclined. It%26#39;s about 90 minutes south of Twin. Keep in mind it is spring in Idaho. Weather conditions can change quickly. My advice is to check with locals on road conditions when venturing to places like Brueanu Sand Dunes.

Twin Falls Area ideas

PGG nailed all the best places.

There are bike paths along the canyon by the Perrine Bridge and at Shoshone Falls and there is some hiking at Dierkes Lake, which is beside Shoshone Falls. High school kids rock climb there, but I don%26#39;t recommend it unless you have some experience. You won%26#39;t typically find help there if you have an accident.

I doubt you%26#39;ll be able to hike the trails around the Ketchum area or the South Hills as we still have snow in those areas. Perhaps you ski?

Craters of the Moon is an interesting site. One of the Apollo teams trained there. Very jagged, bare areas of newly-formed rock. They conduct tours there. From Twin Falls, it%26#39;s maybe an hour%26#39;s drive north? You head north towards Shoshone where you veer right towards Carey/Dietrich. You might find the government website for it.

Do you need hotel/restaurant recommendations?

Get in the car and drive the 1 1/4 hours to Sun Valley and see the most beautiful place. The mountains, the rivers, the sheer beauty. You can rent a pair of snowshoes and walk around . Walk on the bike path, ( we are having record highs and the snow is melting fast). If you are interested in this area, i can help you. The drive is easy and safe and the beauty that awaits you is spectacuar. Some people save all year for tha skiing trip to Sun Valley and you are so close. enjoy

Unfortunately living in Florida I don%26#39;t know how to Ski and I%26#39;d be afraid to learn LOL

The falls we definitely want to see and we are renting a SUV so driving is no trouble. We%26#39;ll be in Twin Falls for awhile and then are heading to Council ID (to visit family) and then back to Twin Falls ID.

We have the Hampton Inn reserved the first few nights and then the Shilo Inn for another week when we come back to Twin Falls from Council. Does anyone know these hotels and if they are nice?

Oh and definitely need restaurant ideas! I love to try new things so anything that is good and not too expensive please let me know!

hkolln, the Hampton is the newest hotel in town, and the Shilo is also nice... not the Hilton, but it%26#39;ll do!

When you%26#39;re at the Shilo you%26#39;ll be close to Jaker%26#39;s, a steakhouse which some people like. The Rock Creek on Addison Avenue is known for its seafood and steak. Also on Addison is The Garden Cafe. There is a good Thai restaurant downtown, Prasai%26#39;s. If you like Japanese, Tokyo Sushi has good teriyaki and tempura. Some morning for breakfast, check out the Buffalo Cafe. For Italian, there is Tomato%26#39;s on Blue Lakes Boulevard. For Mexican, La Fiesta is good -- bright orange building at the corner of Blue Lakes and College, you can%26#39;t miss it!

I%26#39;m sure others will have good suggestions too. Charley can tell you about the good places in the Sun Valley area.

Pug

Thank you for great ideas! We%26#39;ll be up in Sun Valley also for a few days and then Council and we%26#39;re flying into Boise so any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

In Twin Falls, there%26#39;s also Garibaldi%26#39;s Mexican food (go south on Blue Lakes, west/right on Filer. It%26#39;s in a strip mall on the north/right side of Filer). They have great fresh tomato salsa and will also bring a tomatillo-based salsa to the table upon request.

There%26#39;s also an Outback Steakhouse near the bridge.

In Ketchum, we like Rocky Mountain Pizza. It%26#39;s a chain of maybe half a dozen stores or more in Idaho, Utah, maybe Montana? We%26#39;ve also enjoyed the Roosevelt Room for burgers, sandwiches, salad. People talk about the Pioneer, but we%26#39;ve never been there. I guess people refer to it as ';Pio.'; Something local. I%26#39;m guessing it%26#39;s sort of a tavern place like the Roosevelt.

The College of Southern Idaho has a state-of-the-art planetarium which has shows. You might see what%26#39;s playing there. They also sometimes allow the public to have access to their telescope. We looked at sunspots there once. They also have a small museum with live iguanas and snakes. Wait, the last time, we went it seems like some animals were AWOL. They might still have a snake?

Have a great trip! We%26#39;re headed out for springbreak tomorrow. :-)

Sorry, i am a total food snob and Ricos has the best pizza. Also, try Rick Shaw, for great asian food, Globus, wonderful asian infusion, simple food. I won%26#39;t eat at the ';pio%26#39; or Roosevelt...sorry. been here for 30 years and have my favorites. East Ave Bistro, and Ketchum Grill for a really great inovative dinner, reasonably priced. If you are looking for mediocre mexican food, Desperados, they are good, just not to die for. We have the best Thai food (been to Thailand a few times and this one is wonderful) in Hailey, very very reasonable, A THai House, on main street. If you want something upscale, let me know. If you are in Ketchum on Sunday, and want to indulge, the Lodge dinning Room Brunch, one of the best i have ever been to. Piano music, great view and white table cloth service.AND FOOD GALORE

There are wonderful hotsprings very near town, great drive up to Stanley, stop at Galena Lodge for a wonderful , opps, they are closed after this weekend, darn.

Let me know what you are interseted in and i can give you a great itinerary. This area is worth a few days...you won%26#39;t believe the beauty, clean air, the most blue skies that you have ever seen and you can see ALL the stars at night. enjoy

We love the outdoors and I%26#39;m I love taking photos of everything LOL

When we were in hawaii we hiked to tons of waterfalls and it was awesome....I know being in Idaho we will be limited due to the weather but anywhere we can go would be cool.

Scenic drives from Twin Falls up toward Ketchum? A day trip or something like that?
