visiting in early october

HI

the weather will be typical beautiful fall weather

highs in the 60%26#39;s low%26#39;s in the 40.

but there is always a but it can snow or get below freezing.

the mountains will be 20 to 30 degrees colder

we always layer in the fall and winter are you driving or flying?

I am an avid outdoors person so I have lots of hi tech light clothing for cold and wet it is easy and light to pack. I wouldn%26#39;t think you need a big parka or winter coat .

Oct is a great time for mountian drives there are lots of hot springs so bring your swiming suits the trees will be turning and the deer and elk start comming down from the high peaks.

just walking the greenbelt thru town is a treat on a cool oct day.

If you like football maybe the BSU Bronco%26#39;s will be playing in town when you are here.

lots of great resturants down town what type of food do you like.?

we are flying. decided to stay at the Springhill Suites on North Cloverdale. From what I read its not to far from the airport. Hope its nice.

We like just about any type of food. Except, we do not eat at the McDonald%26#39;s type restaurants. A bit more healthy. BBQ, seafood, steaks etc...

Our Daughter is based in Boise with the Navy. So that is the reason for coming out.

Well, here in central Ohio the weather in October can be unpredictable too. So its sounds kinda the same.

thanks for the advice. Anymore ideas, please let me know.

Hi

the Springhill suites on north cloerdale is not near the airport.

maybe 15 min drive more in rush hr.

it is closer to Eagle it is by HP on the corner of Chinden and Cloverdale check the map of Boise anything downtown is much closer to airport.

but there is a good reaturant Lindys near the hotel ,walking distance

bring medium weight layering. the days will be so nice and warm and the nights cool down.

what kind of food do you like. i am stuck on the red feather in town and also, mai thai, the other restaurant owned by the same people.

you will have fun, boise is great and enjoy

The Springhill on Cloverdale is 20-45 minutes from the airport, depending on the time of day. Actually, that hotel is probably the furthest hotel in Boise%26#39;s city limits from the airport. That is the LAST hotel I would choose if I had a morning flight out. It is also a stretch to call Lindy%26#39;s next door a good restaurant. There are dozens of hotels closer. Try Hampton Inn Downtown or Hotel 43. Both are newer and right downtown and within walking distance of the river, parks, Boise State, and many upscale restaurants. The Boise River Greenbelt is a must for any out-of-towners. Also, BSU does have a home game on Oct. 14th, but will be sold-out before too long.

October can be either fabulous in Boise. Or not!

Jeans are the best bet, with layers for the top. It can get beatuifully warm during the day, and darned chilly at night.

Some of the highly recommend fine dining establishments have been mentioned, so I%26#39;ll address the other end! I have to recommend Donnie Mac%26#39;s Trailer Park Cuisine. It%26#39;s something you%26#39;ll talk about for years to come. It%26#39;s downtown in Boise, and the food, in my opinion, is really good. The other highly recommend spot that gets bypassed by visitors is the Westside Drive-in. Definately not drive in food. And both of these spots are very relaxed--no pearls and heels requried.

There are alredy some great suggestions posted, so I won%26#39;t go further into those.

Have your daughter peruse what%26#39;s available at the Boise Visitor%26#39;s Center or go online to www.visitidaho.org. There should be some great harvest festivals and corn maizes happening.

Enjoy your visit!

Cathy

are there any Marriott hotels located downtown. Closer to the airport would be great. we have a 2:15pm flight out. so its not early morning. but really didn%26#39;t want to stay that far from the airport.

food wise, we like just about anything. no fast food. doesn%26#39;t have to be fancy. just good and moderate priced.

thanks to everyone who is helping us enjoy our Boise trip. Can%26#39;t wait to see the mountains and scenic drives.

Nothing here is really far away from the airport. There%26#39;s a Fairfield across the interstate from the airport. Also clos is a Residence Inn, Springhill Suites and others. Try Marriott%26#39;s site to see the map or go to Google Maps.

looks like the Fairfield will be our choice. I understand thats it by the airport so it will be a bit noisy. we are used to from business traveling.

Does anyone have any bad reports about the Fairfield Inn besides the noise issue(plane travel)?

It didn%26#39;t look like the park center Springhill was that close to the airport?

thanks again

One thing that makes Boise lovely in October is that the poison ivy leaves turn red. This is especially pretty along the Boise River from Barber Park to Municipal Park. A lot of people never notice that, because the shuttle busses and tube rentals are closed for the season, but the Canoe Club usually still does some Wednesday evening paddles until the river flow gets too low.

Virginia creeper, which is harmless to the touch, also turns red. Virginia creeper has palmately compound leaf with five leaflets and blue berries.

Poison ivy has the famous pinnately compound three leaflets, and if berries are present they will be a lightly yellowish white.
