4 day weekend in C'oeur d'Alene area - suggestions? Thanks!

We can only manage a 4 day weekend in the area Friday - Monday. We%26#39;ll probably fly into Spokane and out of Spokane. We have a 12 yr old son that will be coming with us, and we will rent a car. I have mixed feelings about Silverwood, but it might be something easy to do for a day? Any other one day place to visit .....boat tour on the lake??..... or use rental car for a one day drive? Or ? I know it%26#39;s a short trip, but it%26#39;s gonna have to do. We are coming from Seattle.

consider day in sandpoint, 45 minutes north. Shopping, galeries and on the lake. Also, consider going up to Kellogg and riding the gondola to the top, the biking down. Also up ther is the Hiawatha trail, a great bike trip. There are also some mine tours up there.

Thanks Kelly,

We%26#39;ve revised our trip a bit - everything is in flux as usual. We%26#39;ve decided to drive from Seattle and stay in Sandpoint, instead of C%26#39;oeur d%26#39;Alene. The only place I seem to find open rooms for in Sandpoint is for the La Quinta Inn. Do you happen to know what it%26#39;s like? Or, another suggestion? Definitely want a pool and something right in town.

Thanks!!

Janet

Just saw your message did you come up did you see Tripple Play and the indoor water slides, mini golf saty at Holiday Inn and do all for free? Spokane%26#39;s IMAX theatre is great and if you come in the summer silver wood is like Knotts berry farm in CA.

Big park down town. Dont forget to see the Falls in Post Falls off of Spokane Exit. Great place to eat id Tomato Street on Appleway, or Capones has a family sports barr with the best hamburgers I have ever tasted! Nice dining is good at TITO%26#39;s or Coeur d alene resort hasd an awesome buffet sunday brunch is to die for morwe food than I ever saw so elegant but fun for kids with their own bar to get what ever they desire, widest selection I have ever seen, including omlet bar, fruit bar and much more! Enjoy!

Hi Joyce,

What a nice note, thanks! Noo, we haven%26#39;t made it yet. We postponed our trip until spring next year, which will be here before I know it...so I%26#39;m still stashing away bits of information in my ';IDAHO'; file, and yours is very much appreciated :) Lots of good tips that no one else had suggested yet. It%26#39;s such a short drive from Seattle, and it%26#39;s one of the areas that I have yet to visit even as a native northwesterner. A great short trip!

Thanks,

Janet C.

Good advice from everyone.

Make sure while you%26#39;re visiting Kellogg that you make a stop in Wallace. It%26#39;s only about 15 minutes past Kellogg and it%26#39;s one of our favorite cities in Idaho. The city is registered with the historical society and has a wonderful and colorful past. There are a few mining tours in the area that are fun for kids, too.

Silverwoods is expensive, so be prepared, but if you like amusement parks, it%26#39;s nice. The lake itself is gorgeous and the old downtown area of Coeur d%26#39;Alene by the resort has a lot of personality.

Have a nice trip next Spring.

From Coeur d%26#39;Alene, head south on scenic Hwy 97 and wind along the eastern shore to quaint Harrison, from which you can explore the Trail of the Coeur d%26#39;Alenes (a 72 mile paved recreational trail). I suggest you request a map of the trail from http://www.friendsofcdatrails.org/

which includes info about bike rentals and other amenities. (The Hiawatha trail, although highly reccomended, is closed this time of year). From Harrison, you can head further south on the trail to Heyburn State park, about seven miles, where the magestic Chatcolet bridge spans the lake. It%26#39;s a beautiful and easy ride along the lake -- one the whole family can enjoy. There is also a wildlife estuary where the CDA River emtpies into the lake just northeast of Harrison.

Seems like a 12 year old boy would have more fun at Triple Play in Hayden, just off of Hwy 95. There is a hotel that the family can stay and they even have an indoor waterpark. We went there for the first time last week and had a great time. There are about 4 slides, wave pool, toddler island, and hot tub.

Triple Play 208-762-7529 They can give you info.

Please be advised, Holiday Inn Express guests get a deal at the family Fun Center but it is not included free of charge unless you purchase an overnight room package from the hotel. You can reach them at 800 720 4207
