visit to yellowstone national park

Hi,

We are planning a honeymoon for next year. We plan on flying to Canada, then going on down to Yellowstone. Can anyone help us with suggesting best places to visit and stay.

Thanks so much

Leanne.

Where will you be flying into in Canada? It will make a difference in the route to Yellowstone.

Thanks for your reply.

We plan on flying to Vancouver, going to Vancouver island, back to vancouver and travelling down from there. From Yellowstone, we were thinking of travelling back up to Calgary. What do you think?

Thanks Leanne.

Hi Leanne

Some more questions first.

How long are you visiting and what time of year.

If you want to make the loop Vancouver-Vancouver Island-Seattle-Yellowstone/Grand Teton-Glacier NP-Calgary-Vancouver, not to mention many other great places to visit I would advice at least 3, better 4 weeks.

Please let us know and we will help you.

How do you feel about driving? I ask because this is a LOT of area to cover. The most direct route from Vancouver to West Yellowstone is 890 miles through Washington, Idaho and Montana; then it%26#39;s another 600 miles directly north to Calgary. There are MANY beautiful and/or interesting places to see along the way, including Seattle, the North Cascades, Sandpoint and Coeur d%26#39;Alene. Alternately, you might consider going east from Vancouver to the Banff area in the beautiful Canadian Rockies and then south to Glacier, Yellowstone, the Tetons and flying out somewhere like Billings or Salt Lake City. That would be a couple hundred miles less driving, even if you go as far south as Salt Lake City.

As others have stated the duration of your trip as compared to the distance from Vancouver to Yellowstone will have a big impact on suggestions. The most direct route from Vancouver to Yellowstone is a two day drive on the Interstates with a mid point somewhere in the Spokane, Washington - Coeur d%26#39; Alene, Idaho - Missoula, Montana area, all places worth stopping at. The Northwest US and British Columbia/Alberta area contain a host of great areas to visit such as the North Cascades National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, Glacier National Park, the lakes of North Idaho, the Canadian National Parks in the Rocky Mountains. Yellowstone by itself is worth at minimum of two full days to visit. Its good to start planning early, I think your first step is to develop a general idea of a route and then get suggestions.
