I have 1wk vacation left between now and Jan

When is the best time to take a driving trip in ID......Going to see as much of ID as I can for relocation purposes. Which areas are a MUST SEE, as far as cities go, and what places are not worth checking into at all. I have been to the major parks, and attractions, just looking into employable, liveable areas on this trip....Thanks

Your post is vague. Are you looking for job hubs or natural beauty or communities experiencing some growth? Can you work in your home?

In recent years, I haven%26#39;t travelled north of Boise much so I can%26#39;t speak about that part of the state. McCall/Donnelly is gorgeous, booming with the new Tamarack resort. Couer d%26#39;Elene is gorgeous. (Sorry I%26#39;m not a speller.) In the winter and summer, Boise is typically six degrees warmer than here in Twin Falls which is a bonus in the winter, but not so much at this time of year.

From my point of view, the Pocatello area offers very little despite it being a college town. Idaho Falls can be very cold and snowy in the winter, but it%26#39;s a gateway to the gorgeous Tetons.

Sun Valley isn%26#39;t as pretty as other parts of the state, particularly given the cost of living there. There is always a housing shortage there for people working in service industries.

Salmon and Challis are beautiful, but remote.

Maybe this can be starting point for you to ask more specific questions?

What are your interests?

Most of Eastern Idaho, (Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Pocatello, Blackfoot)...is dry, flat, windy, and snowy in the winter.

This is also one of the highest density areas for LDS members, (Mormons). If you are of that religion, it%26#39;s fine. If not, it can be tough. (I grew up there as a non-member).

But, as the previous poster said, it is the gateway to great areas like Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Yellowstone, etc. If you ski it%26#39;s great to be so close to those areas.

On the west side of the state, Boise, Twin Falls, and anything north of those areas is much more scenic (still hot), but a lot more going on economically, recreation options are abundant and wonderful.

Happy travels.

sept and Oct are great times for drives the kids are back in school so less traffic on the mountain roads plus the weather is cool and the trees start turning colors. you can get some snow in the mountains in Oct. the winter months can be treacherous for driving if you are not used to snow and ice. but great if you are a skier.
