Camping between Sandpoint and Spokane

Hi,

We (two couples in our late 20%26#39;s) are travelling from Calgary, Canada to the Gorge in George, Washington for a concert. We were hoping to break up the drive and stop somewhere and camp for one night. As one half of each couple will be moving overseas for a year very shortly, we would like to stay somewhere that has a bit of ';atmosphere';, somewhere not very crowded with nice scenery, perhaps by a lake or in a park. I have read a lot of good things about the town of Sandpoint (it sounds reminiscent of Canmore, here in Alberta) and thought maybe there might be some good places to stay around Lake Pend d%26#39;Oreille. We would like to find somewhere that is not very far out of our way. We will probably drive through Creston and take the US-95 south and then the I-90 west.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If its camping you are interested in, you might want to consider one of the following, they are both adjacent to US95 the main route down from Canada to Interstate 90 at Coeur d%26#39; Alene. 1. Farragut State Park, located at Bayview on the southern end of Lake Pend Oreille, large state park with a variety of facilities, located on the lake, web site: www.idahoparks.org/parks/farragut.aspx or 2. Round Lake State PArk - located south of Sandpoint adjacent to US95, small state park on There are no public campgrounds right in Sanpoint, there is a US Forest Service Campground to the east at Hope on Lake Pend Oreille and US Corps of Engineers Campgrounds to the west on the Pend Oreille River near Priest River.

I%26#39;m sure you will find the scenery in this area just beautiful. My hubby hauls logs to Bonner%26#39;s Ferry Idaho a lot, so we travel the road from Cranbrook to Bonner%26#39;s Ferry often. The Priest River area is very nice, and so is Lake Pend Oreille. Sandpoint is one of my favorite places ever! We go there to shop quite often, it has a small town atmosphere and everyone is very friendly.
