Scenic areas for a days outing from Boise area??

Making a quick trip next week, traveling with my 8 year old so nothing to rough. Would love to see the beauty of the area any and all suggestions welcome?

Scenic areas for a days outing from Boise area??

Hi Snorkling,

I really like Goldfork Hot Springs, which is about 1 1/2 hours North of Boise. It is a beautiful setting with several different pools ranging from extremely hot to kid friendly. They have a yurt there for changing. It%26#39;s pretty fun, a lot of times deer will walk right up to the springs and you get to meet many different people from all over.

McCall is not too far from Goldfork and has a lot to offer as well. The Mill is a great steakhouse and McCall also has it%26#39;s own Brewery. I have gone on some fun snowmobiling tours in McCall and I think you can go on some horseback riding tours as well. Or rent some ATVs and go exploring. The drive to McCall and McCall itself is very scenic.

Tamarack Resort just opened not too far from there. You could check them out. If your son is in to snowboarding, they have one of the only halfpipes in the country.

Rapelling or Fishing would be fun.... It%26#39;s a little hard with the weather getting cold thinking of outdoor activities, but those are my suggestions! For a day trip, McCall is a great one especially with a stop at GoldFork.

I%26#39;m sure others on here will have some great suggestions...

Good luck and have fun!

Jamie

Thank-you, sounds like fun!

There%26#39;s a nice view from the top of Table Rock. You can drive to the top. Take Table Rock Road. It is possible to hike to the top of Table Rock from the Old State Penitentiary, but that might be a bit too much for an 8 year old. Also the trail gets muddy in places this time of year with the increased rain.

Interesting views from the top of Lucky Peak Dam. The water level in the reservoir is very low this time of year, but that makes the sight interesting. You can drive up to the boat launch areas like Turner Gulch. If you want to get more ambitious you can take Hwy 21 over the bridge over Mores Creek inlet, and turn right towards Spring Shores Marina. You can continue further to Arrowrock Dam. Built in 1915, it was the highest dam in the U.S. at the time. It is also the prototype for Hoover Dam.
