Any Gay-Friendly B&Bs or Particular Hotels in CDA??

Visiting for one night in late April. Looking for a gay-friendly B%26amp;B place to stay. McFarlands? Roosevelt? Others? Thanks.

Any Gay-Friendly B%26amp;Bs or Particular Hotels in CDA??

Hi WorldTreker

First of all, you%26#39;re going to be visiting at a gorgeous time of year -- early April the colors are just starting to come out and the area is beautiful.

To answer your question specifically, I can%26#39;t think of any specifically gay-friendly spots in North Idaho, to be honest. It%26#39;s changing slowly, but it%26#39;s a pretty conservative area. We moved up from California, as well as 90% of the new citizens, so that%26#39;s starting to change, but it%26#39;s still a bit rough around the edges in some ways. The people are definitely friendly and I can%26#39;t imagine you%26#39;ll have any trouble or feel uneasy anywhere you stay, but as far as I know, there isn%26#39;t even a gay-friendly bar in CdA!

As I said, I definitely wouldn%26#39;t let that dissuade you from coming though.

Here%26#39;s a link to the main Bed and Breakfasts in the area.

As far as hotels, your definite best bet would be the CdA Resort. It%26#39;s the biggest and I can%26#39;t imagine that you would receive any kind of attitude there at all.

I do know that some of the smaller hotels on Sherman Ave. (the main street) might make you feel uncomfortable. I know of at least one that won%26#39;t rent a room to unmarried couples (stated that on their sign outside).

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great trip.

Hey, thanks for the info above. Very nice to see such welcoming and kind people like you. We%26#39;ve never had trouble, but are just a little leary of staying a B%26amp;B where we%26#39;ll be one-on-one with the owners...especially if they are on an opposite end of the spectrum than we are. Could be for an interesting evening! Still checking out McFarlands and the Roosevelt. Thanks again.

I certainly welcome you to the beauty of our area, however, I need to make you aware of some issues in the region. Coeur d%26#39;Alene and North idaho are not known for accepting diverse lifestyles. There was quite the outcry in the Coeur d%26#39;Alene high school when a GBL student organization was started. Some student protested that this group would try to %26#39;push their lifestyle'; of the rest of the students. An outcome of this is a recent bill in the Idaho legislature, from a north Idaho politician, that will require all student to gain a parents signiture, before joining any club or organization at school. This bill has laready passed the legislative house.

I apologize for our regions slow movement towards greater openess and acceptance, but hope you will have an enjoyable visit.

i am sorry to be weighing in so late ....... far beyond the time you took your trip to Coeur d%26#39; Alene...... (hope you had fun, BTW)

Perhaps people visiting the site in the future will be helped by this information about at least one area business that is proudly gay friendly.

Located at the corner of 4thst and Wallace ave near downtown Coeur d%26#39; Alene, is Mik %26#39;n Mac%26#39;s night club. Mik %26#39;n Mac%26#39;s was established in the late 1990%26#39;s by a local couple who desired to provide the gay community in our area with its first openly gay bar. Mik n%26#39; Mac%26#39;s sprang quickly from a small pub to a full scale night club, offering a wide array of activities from karaoke to sumo-wrestling (suits provided), to live music and entertainment.

Because of Mik %26#39;n Mac%26#39;s discrimination free policy and because of its great DJ%26#39;s and live music, it quickly came to be %26#39;the spot%26#39; to go for Coeur d%26#39; Alene nightlife, and it remains that way to this day. The location is small, and the demand is large. Expect to wait in line on any Friday or Saturday night in the summer.

The atmosphere inside is well worth the wait for anyone looking to find busy social excitement. Mik n%26#39; Mac%26#39;s staff do a great job of fielding problems before they escalate, providing a secure feeling and a safe place to get busy. It can be a bit hectic, however, especially on the weekends. Get there early if you are into a more mellow scene, or visit during the week.

I hope this helps some future visitors who may be interested to know about gay friendly businesses in the Coeur d%26#39; Alene area.

Sincerely,

anj119 (a Coeur d%26#39; Alene native)
