McCall vs. Sun Valley

My husband and I are going to be in Idaho in a couple weeks. We want to stay outside Boise for a couple of nights and are debating between going to McCall or Sun Valley area. Any recommendations or preferences from locals or people who have visited these areas. We love hiking, biking, being outdoors (but not camping). Does one have better hiking/scenery than the other? Sun Valley looks to be a little more expensive. Thanks!

McCall vs. Sun Valley

I love McCall, but if it was me, I%26#39;d take the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway northeast of Boise to the Sawtooth Mountains. Instead of staying in Sun Valley, stop at Stanley/Redfish Lake area. This is the best area for hiking, the mountains are gorgeous, and it%26#39;s definitely less expensive than Sun Valley. (I%26#39;ll be there myself at the end of September.) You%26#39;ll find trailheads and beautiful alpine lakes at Stanley Lake, Redfish Lake, Pettit Lake, and Alturas Lake... all within minutes of the highway. An inexpensive but basic motel is Mountain Village in Stanley. They have their own hot springs right on the property! Have a great trip.

McCall vs. Sun Valley

Salukis Girl, I recently returned from a week at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch near Stanley. We loved it. Great food, great hiking (see the info under Hiking the Sawtooths post on this forum and my hotel review of IRMR). We will definitely go back, it is an incredibly special area.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We%26#39;re planning to stay in Stanley and can%26#39;t wait! Staying at the Riverside Motel based on the suggestions on this site.

Be sure and have a meal at the Stanley Baking Company. Have a great trip, it is a beautiful area. We stayed at the Riverside two or three years ago and it was very nice.

Courtesy rules in Sun Valley, they will treat you very well.

It may well be worh the extra money.

Had rude experience in McCall Area-Burgdorf Hot springs.

Snowmobiling is OK though.

Salukisgirl - first, guess you%26#39;re a SIU fan? Go Dawgs!

Anyway, we are moving to Boise area and appreciate any info on how your trip went.
